The Carnegie Airborne Observatory (CAO) imaged the Peruvian Amazon rainforest in 2011 using the new Airborne Taxonomic Mapping System or AToMS. AToMS revealed the 3-D structure and vegetation functional diversity shown in differing colors among the trees and other canopy species found in the region. -

The Carnegie Airborne Observatory (CAO) mapped the 3-D structure and biomass of remote tropical rainforests in the Colombian Amazon. The CAO laser allowed for this image to be produced during nighttime mapping flights.
